Welcome to My Family Album (“we,” “our,” or “us”).

My Family Album is an iOS application, developed by Kidslox, that helps parents and guardians organise their children’s photos and videos into beautiful, private stories and timelines.

Your family’s privacy is at the heart of how the app is built. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Privacy by Design — On-Device Encryption

My Family Album is built so that your family’s memories stay private, even from us.

  • All photos and videos are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before they are ever uploaded.
  • Per-user access is controlled using RSA-OAEP key wrapping, so only you and the family members you explicitly invite can decrypt your media.
  • Because encryption happens on your device, the media stored on our servers is encrypted and is not readable by us.

This means your children’s photos and videos are protected with strong, industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.

2. On-Device AI & Photo Organisation

My Family Album uses Apple’s Vision framework and other on-device processing to automatically organise your library and detect meaningful stories and events (such as birthdays, holidays, and trips).

  • This analysis runs entirely on your device. Your photos and videos are not sent to us or to third parties for AI processing.
  • To help group photos of the same person within your own library, the app may generate on-device face-grouping data. This information is used only on your device to organise your own library and is not used to identify people outside your account.
  • You remain in control and can adjust or remove this organisation at any time within the app.

3. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information such as your name and email address
  • Account login credentials (managed via our authentication provider)
  • Child profile details you choose to add, such as a name or nickname and date of birth, for each of your children
  • The encrypted photos and videos you choose to add to your album
  • Subscription and purchase status (payments are handled by the App Store)
  • Messages or support requests you send to us

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device type and operating system
  • App version and language settings
  • Crash reports and diagnostics
  • Anonymous usage analytics

This information helps us improve app performance, reliability, and user experience.

4. Children’s Privacy

My Family Album is intended for use by parents and guardians to preserve their own children’s memories. It is not directed at children, and children are not permitted to create accounts independently.

The account holder is a parent or guardian who provides and controls any child information within the app. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without appropriate parental involvement and consent.

We aim to comply with applicable children’s privacy laws, including:

  • The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”)
  • GDPR and GDPR-K
  • Apple App Store requirements for apps handling children’s data

Because a child’s photos and videos are encrypted on-device and are readable only by the parent and the family members they invite, this content is not accessible to us. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us and we will promptly delete the information.

5. How We Use Information

  • Provide and maintain the Services, including secure storage and sync of your encrypted media
  • Enable private sharing with family members you explicitly invite
  • Process subscriptions and confirm your purchase status
  • Respond to customer support requests
  • Improve app functionality, performance, and reliability
  • Prevent abuse, fraud, and comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your photos or videos for advertising.

6. Private Family Sharing

Content in My Family Album is never posted publicly. Stories, timelines, and media are shared only with the specific family members you explicitly invite, and access is enforced through per-user encryption keys. Anyone you remove from a shared album loses the ability to decrypt future content.

7. Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate the Services:

  • Firebase Authentication — to securely sign you in and manage your account.
  • Google Cloud — to host our backend and store your encrypted media.
  • Apple App Store — to process any subscription or in-app purchases.

These providers process information on our behalf under their own privacy policies. They do not receive the encryption keys needed to read your media.

8. Advertising

The Services do not include third-party advertising, and we do not use your content to target ads.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

You may delete your account and all associated media at any time. You can do this from within the app, or by submitting a request as described on our Delete Account page. We will process account deletion requests within 30 days.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:

  • Access your information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your information
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Withdraw consent
  • Request data portability

11. Data Security

In addition to on-device encryption of your media, we use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

12. International Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in countries outside your place of residence. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may provide additional notice within the app or by email.
